We are very fortunate to report that we have sustained no losses in structure or wine from the horrific fires that have been ravaging our state. So many of you have reached out expressing your concern for our safety, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We thank all of you for your continued support + love.
Many of our friends, neighbors + colleagues have lost so much in these fires. It’s been an incredibly sad, scary + overwhelming week. Moving forward for the rest of this month we would like to donate 15% of our sales to fire relief. Another way to help is to keep buying + drinking California wine.

We’ve been hard at work picking, stomping, + pressing grapes at Rorick Heritage Vineyard all summer making the future Rare Creatures of the world! Now it’s time to send out a new batch of wine for all to enjoy. When you order wine from us you always have the option to come to our tasting room Outland in Downtown Napa and pick it up.
We sincerely hope you’ll be able to join us on Oct. 21st when we will be having our Parliament Funkadelic-themed release party! Snacks will be prepared by Contimo Provisions + we will be pouring all 6 of our new wines! Flights + snacks will be complimentary to those who are picking up an order or who will be purchasing on the spot (otherwise $30 per person). Bring friends, dress up, get funky!

Gearing up for the big show…looks like the Mokelumne Glen mixed set in Lodi, will be first out the gate. Right behind will be Dale Ricci’s vineyard in Carneros bringing us the funky Sankt Laurent. Up at our home court vineyard in Murphys, the grapes are about 2 weeks behind last year but ripening up nicely. We are also gearing up to bottle our new estate red and white blends as well as a bunch of funky produce to be released in the fall. So exciting/terrifying! July 17th 5-7pm @OUTLAND – Historical Coombsville Tasting with Tom Farella: This class will allow guests to taste a vertical of Farella wines from their estate vineyard, and listen to wonderful stories about what it was like to make wine here in Napa in the 1970’s and 1980’s, and to grow grapes for Mondavi when it was still owned by Robert Mondavi. July 22nd 1-5pm @Front Porch Farm – The Seven % Solution: This event and the Seven % Solution movement are focused on Celebrating and Perpetuating Varietal Diversity in California. The venue for 2017 is Front Porch Farm, a stunning farm and winery guided by the principle that diversity is nature’s basic pattern. There will be 31 wineries, 59 grape varieties and 121 wines represented, as well as information on the farmers behind the growing scene of these lesser known grapes. The Winemakers participating in this event are some of the best in the nation- their wines a great example of an ongoing movement to get back to the roots of varietal diversity and winemaking practices. “The Real Wine Fair is a wine tasting event, celebrating skilled individuals who work organically or biodynamically in the vineyards and winery. Over 100 growers and winemakers will be presenting hundreds of wines, made as naturally as possible. Visitors to The Real Wine Fair can meet and talk to the winegrowers, whilst having the opportunity to taste a diverse range of honest, terroir-driven wines. Several real wine ‘heroes’ have also been lined up for a series of seminars and debates. There will also be delicious artisan food & drink by leaders of the UK restaurant, bar, and street food scene.”

2012 ‘Batiscafo’ : A truly rare creature; high-end aged Verdelho? We say hell yeah. 20 cases produced.
2015 Picpoul : From Rorick Heritage Vineyards, this Picpoul took a long and slow fermentation; layers of complexity with the hallmark acidity that both the variety, and the site, are known for.
2015 ‘The Kerrigans’ : Carignan from 65 year old vines grown by the historic and legendary Poor Family in Mendocino. Pure, sinuous, and bracingly fresh, with a firm backbone to carry its bright and true fruit core well into the next decade.
2015 ‘Saint Kerrigan’ : The 2015 Saint Kerrigan is a zero sulfur added bottling of the same wine which is bottled as ‘The Kerrigans’, being produced from the same fermentation in order to make a SO2/no SO2 comparison of the same wine with as few variables as possible
2016 ‘Kumo To Ame’ : Rosé of Pinot Noir grown on Rorick Heritage Vineyards’ limestone & schist soils. Bright acid, fruit forward with a fresh-herb finish. Only 52 cases of this stunner.

We have been getting a metric f*ck ton of rain, which is great for the vines and for our reservoir. Matthew says he has never seen the creek as full and raging with water as it is right now.
It was awesome as always to be up on the property and surrounded by vines and ferments. In addition to touring around checking out the frost and water, we did some topping and prepping for bottling. Then we piled in the Toyota & spent a little time in the Vermentino block checking in on the grafts that were put in last season. The block is on an insanely steep incline and a good glute workout was had by all.
This week we will be bottling the Gemischter Satz & some 350ml Late Harvest dessert wine. Excited to get some more rare creatures into bottle & release them into the wild. Speaking of which, keep a look out for the winter release, coming sooooon.
Yesterday we did a tasting @ Ordinaire Wine in Oakland & it was poppin’! Thanks to everyone who came out and day drank their Saturday away with us and to the boys of Ordinaire for the hospitality.
Afterwards we had a fantastic impromptu, traffic-inspired dinner at Chez Panisse. Thanks to John & his incredible team for such a ridiculously lovely experience!
